FARMERS AND NATURE - TOGETHER!!!
PROMOTING HIGH NATURE VALUE (HNV) FARMING AND AGRI-ENVIRONMENT PAYMENTS THROUGH CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS IN MACEDONIA
The project will focus upon the positive benefits of certain types of agriculture in Macedonia for protecting our valuable habitats and important species of wildlife.
In the frame of the project we are working towards:
1. Introducing and applying the concept of "High Nature Value" (HNV) farming to the different types of agriculture found in Macedonia;
2. Raising awareness of the importance of HNV farming for biodiversity conservation;
3. Taking some first steps towards helping to support and encourage the continued existence of the HNV farming systems that are found in many regions of our country.
The following events within the project activities have been completed:
- Training of local NGOs;
- Kick-off meeting for introduction with the project;
- Meeting with the local case studies' experts;
- Field visits of the farmers in pilot regions.
The project is implemented jointly by the Ecologist's Movement of Macedonia (DEM) and the Center for Civil Initiative (CCI) with the co-operation and support of two international NGOs - Avalon from the Netherlands and the Institute of European Environmental Policy (IEEP) from the UK.
This project is funded by the MATRA Social Transformation Programme of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
